Blast From the Past: Natasha Bedingfield

Another event I covered on the BBMA 2012 weekend was the intimate Natasha Bedingfield concert that Billboard sponsored.

Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 Pilot Review

Today, I watched the pilot for Don’t Trust the B—– in Apartment 23 and I got to say, I’m impressed with it.  The humor in the show is over the top in a great way.  Here’s the official premise of the show:

Centers on Chloe, a New York party girl with the morals of a pirate who bullies and causes trouble for her naive small town roommate June.

What I found so intriguing about the show is that the main character, Chloe (played by Krysten Ritter), is a sociopath that does anything to get rid of her roommates until she meets her match in June (played by Dreama Walker).  Another interesting aspect of the show is James Van Der Beek (who plays a parody version of himself).  Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 premieres on April 11 at 9:30/ 8:30 on ABC.

Celebrities That I Would Love to Meet

Being a fan of pop culture, I enjoy getting to see and meet celebrities.  Since I’ve been in Las Vegas, I’ve been lucky with the celebrity encounters that I have experienced.  I love that I am able to document these occasions for all of you who read this blog and follow me on Facebook.  The following list is celebrities that I would like to meet, talk to, and take pictures of them and with them.  This is not a complete list (the actual list is already long and gets longer every day).

  • Neil Patrick Harris:  I have been a fan of Neil’s ever since he was on Doogie Howser M.D.  He’s a great actor and he’s also a magician.  He and his husband, David Burtka come to Vegas quite often.
  • Kristen Chenoweth:  The star of ABC’s new drama GCB, Kristen is someone who seems like she would be very cool to meet.
  • Adele:  There are many reasons I would love to meet the Grammy-winning singer but the biggest reason of all is that she and I were both born on May 5.  True I am 10 years older than her but it is so awesome to share a birthday with one of the best singers of all time.
  • Cameron Crowe: I have been a fan of Cameron Crowe ever since Jerry Maguire but it was his films Almost Famous and Elizabethtown that made me take a professional interest in him.  The guy puts some of the best music in his films because he understands how much of an impact the right song in the right place can make.
  • Jennifer Lopez: I first became aware of Jennifer when she starred in the movie Selena.  Since then she has become a superstar in all sense of the word.
  • Ellen Degeneres and Portia De Rossi: For me, meeting Ellen and Portia has a lot to do with the fact that they are amazing as a couple.  Also, I know that it would be fun to meet Ellen because she is someone who would leave a lasting impression, and Portia is a classy lady that always looks fantastic.
  • Anne Rice:  After reading Interview With the Vampire in high school, I started reading other books by Rice and found my favorite book that Anne Rice wrote was Exit to Eden.  I loved Anne’s take on the whole S & M scene complete with an island resort that makes Fantasy Island a bit too tame compared to Rice’s Eden.
  • Heather Locklear: A seasoned veteran in the primetime soap genre, Locklear is known for many roles in her acting career.  Every week when I was a teenager, I would watch Melrose Place to see what Locklear’s character, Amanda Woodward, would do.
  • Dedire Hall:  I have been a fan of Days of Our Lives since I was a kid and for me Dedire Hall is soap opera royalty.  During her career as Doctor Marlena Evans on Days, Hall has been in storylines involving demonic possession, serial killers, and evil twins.
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar:  From the moment I saw the first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I became a fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar.  I loved her as Daphne in the Scooby Doo movies and loved her role in Cruel Intentions.  Her new show, Ringer, is one of the best shows on TV.

Again, I would like to stress this is a sampling of my long and ever-growing list of celebs I would like to meet.  I am happy with every celebrity I meet.

ABC’s GCB: A Tempest in a Teapot

On Sunday, ABC premiered its latest show, GCB (Good Christian Belles) and the show is already coming under a firestorm of controversy.  Based on the book, Good Christian Bitches by Kim Gatlin, GCB focuses on Amanda Vaughn, a recent widow who returns to her hometown, Dallas, after her assets are seized due to her dead husband’s Ponzi scheme.  Turns out Amanda was a bitch in high school and the girls whose lives she made miserable are determined to make her pay.  Many religious groups such as One Million Moms claim the show mocks the Christian faith to the point of blasphemy, but being from a Southern community myself, I know for a fact that the level of hypocrisy that is portrayed in GCB exists in reality.  The show itself is written very well and has some great cast members like Annie Potts and Kristen Chenoweth.  I am looking forward to seeing next week’s episode.

Cougar Town: A Zip Line Tour of the Set

In a behind the scenes look at Season 3 of Cougar Town, the cast is ziplining in the cul-de-sac.  The clip shows Ian Gomez (Andy), Brian Van Holt (Bobby), Busy Phillips (Laurie), and Courtney Cox (Jules) all taking their turn on the zipline.  Don’t forget to watch tonight’s episode, “A Heart With of a Mind of Its Own”, at 8:30/7:30 pm.  Here is a preview from the episode:

Review of COUGAR TOWN Season 3 Premiere “Ain’t Love Strange”

Last night after nine months wait, Cougar Town returned with new episodes.  The season three opener, “Ain’t Love Strange”, focused mostly on the relationship between Jules and Grayson but the subplots in this episode were quite hilarious as well.   Episode spoilers after the jump. The Cul-de-sac crew returns tonight on ABC at 8:30 pm EST/PST and 7:30 pm CST.  Cougar Town begins its third season on Valentine’s Day with a romantic moment that is too good to be spoiled.   In case you missed the highlight reel of season 3, here it is:

My review for the Cougar Town’s Season 3 opener will be up after 9:00 pm PST.

COUGAR TOWN Viewing Party at Palms

Tonight I experienced my first star-studded premiere.  I was one of the lucky few to see the Cougar Town Season 3 premiere and an additional episode at the Palms Casino.  The best part of the premiere was that I met most of the cast of Cougar Town.  Courtney Cox (Jules Cobb), Christa Miller (Ellie Torres), Josh Hopkins (Grayson Ellis), Ian Gomez (Andy Torres), Brian Van Holt (Bobby Cobb), and Robert Clendenin (Tom) were in attendance at the viewing party and I talked to them and got my picture taken with all of them except Christa Miller.

The season three premiere of Cougar Town was excellent.  It had many hilarious moments and one big romantic moment.  I’m not going to spoil it because the episode is going to be on ABC on Valentine’s Day at 8:30 (Eastern and Pacific)/ 7:30 (Central), but needless to say it is one of the best episodes of the show so far.  The second episode shown was an episode focusing on Bobby’s new love interest played by Sarah Chalke from Scrubs.  During the end credits of this episode, there was a mini-Scrubs reunion that was so comical.  After the viewing of the two episodes, a sizzle reel for Season 3 of Cougar Town was shown and this season looks to be the best season yet.

Music of My Favorite Decade The 1990s Part 2: Legendary Singers

Continuing with the theme established in the previous article with the similar name, the 1990s also brought singers that managed to achieve great staying power.  The first of these artists is Ricky Martin.  From the time Ricky Martin was a teenager, he has been in the public eye.    In 1984 a thirteen year-old Ricky joined the Latin boy band, Menudo and became a young Latino heart throb.  In 1990, Martin started his solo career in singing and even 1994, starring on the ABC soap, General Hospital, but it wasn’t until 1999 that Ricky Martin would become widely known in the United States when he performed at the Grammys that year.

Ricky Martin’s first English single,  “Living la Vida Loca” sent him soaring into stardom.

Recently, Ricky came out as gay to the world and not long after that he released a memoir about his life on and off stage and what led him to reveal that he was gay.  Martin also released his latest album Musica + Alma +Sexo with the first single off the new album being “The Best Thing About Me Is You”, a duet with singer/ songwriter Joss Stone.  The video for this single features many same-sex couples.

Another legendary singer to debut during the 90s is Britney Spears.  Like Ricky Martin, Britney started young in the entertainment industry on the New Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney Channel.

Britney hit the music scene in 1999 when the title track of her album, …Baby One More Time, debuted and sold 500, 000 copies in one day

Britney’s rise to stardom was not without its shares of ups and downs though.  From her marriage and divorce to the father of her children, Kevin Federline,  to her bouts with hospitalization, Britney suffered many troubling issues but despite those moments in her life, Britney endured.  Earlier this year, she released her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, and the first single, “Hold It Against Me” debuted at number one.

Britney Spears has become a big influence in pop culture.  So much so, that the Fox television show, Glee, did an episode tribute to her with Spears herself making a cameo appearance.

Like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake got his start on the New Mickey Mouse Club.

Justin’s introduction into the music industry was as part of the boy band ‘N SYNC.  The group became widely popular with the teen set when their first single off their self-titled debut album, “I Want You Back”, premiered.

It was apparent early on that Justin was a star but Justin’s stock rose when he went off to start his solo career.  In Feburary 2004, Timberlake came under fire for his role in the now infamous Janet Jackson “Wardrobe malfunction” during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Justin publicly apologized for his role in that incident and was back in the good graces of the American public.  In September 2006, Justin Timberlake released his second album, FutureSex/ LoveSounds, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.  The first single off the new album, “Sexyback” was an instant hit.

The style of FutureSex/ LoveSounds was different from his debut solo album due to Justin’s creative control and production partnership with producer/rapper Timbaland.  The duo of Timberlake and Timbaland was a winning combination that led to other artists like Duran Duran and Madonna using the duo’s talent to create hit songs.  Timberlake has also solidified himself as a talented actor starring in films such as Alpha Dog, The Social Network, and this summer’s Bad Teacher.
