Music Videos You Should See

Welcome to what I hope will become a regular staple on Pop Culture Redefined, Music Videos You Should See.  The first video is from the legendary band Duran Duran.  The song is “Girl Panic” from their latest album, All You Need Is Now.  Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, “Girl Panic” is a nine and a half-minute film that serves as a faux documentary with supermodels as members of Duran Duran and the band as reporters, hotel bellmen and photographers.

The next video is from the band Foster the People.  As I had reported once before, Foster the People is the band to watch.  Their newest video, “Call It What You Want”, is the third single off their debut album Torches.  Directed by Ace Norton, the concept behind the video is rich kids finding ways to relieve boredom.

Another video that is worth viewing is “Shake It Out” by Florence + the Machine.  Led by British born Florence Welsh, this band is amazing.

Last week,  the hit show Glee celebrated a milestone, 300 musical performances.  The 300th performance was the Troubletones, with former New Directions members Mercedes (Amber Riley), Santana (Naya Rivera), and Brittany (Heather Morris), performing a mashup of Adele’s hits “Rumor Has It” and “Someone Like You”.

Finally, a big shout out goes out to my fellow Southern West Virginian, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.  The America’s Got Talent winner came out with his debut album yesterday and Landau is making the rounds to morning talk shows.  If you are a fan of the classic singers like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, I suggest you pick up Landau’s album, That’s Life, in stores now.

One final thing, as my readers are aware, I promised that next time I posted a music video post, I would post Lady Gaga’s new video, “Marry the Night”.  While the video itself has not been released , a prelude to “Marry the Night” is on YouTube.

A Unique Talent on America’s Got Talent 2011

This season on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, there is a particular singer that I and the whole state of West Virginia are rooting for: Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.  Murphy, a car washer from Logan, West Virginia, auditioned this season in New York City.  When he first came out,  judges Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan and Howie Mandel did not know what to expect from the 36 year-old Logan native, but when he started singing Frank Sinatra’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”, Murphy impressed the judges.  All three judges gave Landau a standing ovation.  Here is the video from his audition:

Murphy went on to the Vegas round and sailed through with his rendition of Sinatra’s “I Get No Kick From Champagne”.

Tonight at 9 pm eastern/ pacific, the pride of Logan, WV, Landau Murphy performs for the first time in the AGT competition round and he has people ready to call to vote for him.  I also am going to watch and vote for him.  This guy is a rare talent and for him to make it would bring joy to the whole state of West Virginia.
