Today is the time-honored tradition of the Super Bowl. For some, it means watching the game and cheering for your favorite team. Then there are those of us who watch to see the latest advertisements that movie studios trot out for the upcoming months and any commercial that is bound to become a part of pop culture. Here is a rundown of the ads airing today during the Super Bowl:
This year we see the second coming of Ferris Bueller, sort of. In this commercial, Matthew Broderick calls in sick to his agent. What ensues is a series of adventures akin to Broderick’s hit film, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. All the while, the product that the commercial is selling is the Honda 2012 CR-V.
The next video, titled “The Bark Side”, comes from Volkswagen. The commercial has a group of dogs barking “The Imperial March” from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Among the motley crew of dogs, you can see dogs dressed like Chewbacca, an Ewok, C3PO, Princess Leia and Darth Vader. At the end of the commercial, a greyhound comes across the screen dressed like an AT-AT from the Battle of Hoth.
In the Super Bowl spot for the superhero team film, Marvel’s The Avengers, the term “less is more” couldn’t ring more true. While the commercial is only ten seconds long, we are treated to our first peek at the Hulk in the upcoming film.
Finally, capitalizing on the 2012 end of the world nonsense, Chevy gives a commercial where a group of men are driving through the post-apocalyptic world to meet up. One of the guys asks where their friend Dave is and the one of the other guys says that Dave didn’t make it because he drove a Ford truck.
Here it is!! The trailer for “The Avengers”, movie based upon the Marvel Comic featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, the Incredible Hulk, and Nick Fury, has just shown up on the internet. The movie opens May 4, 2012.
